Choosing A Dating Website

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Maxine Casey There has been an explosion of online dating sites over the last couple of years with a huge variety of themes. There are special interest sites for almost anything you can think of - outdoor enthusiasts, couch potatoes, religious, non-religious, gays, lesbians, bikers, cooks, hairy biker cooks, Italians, Hispanics, bookworms - like I said, almost anything you can think of. As well as that, you have the different types of membership sites. There are the large paid sites with many and varied features like chat rooms, Instant Messaging, compatibility profiles, personality testing and, the latest things, mobile dating and video messaging. There are the less expensive paid sites where you get a few of those features and then there are the free sites where you can browse a few profiles but do little else. I dont recommend those but, if money is a real concern, they are better than nothing. So how do you choose the right one for you? Here are some things to consider: 1. Your needs and preferences. Do you have a particular religion, ethnic type or nationality preference? Do you want to chat to people with the same interests or hobbies as you? Or are you happy with a more general site where you can meet lots of different types of people? 2. Cost. How much do you want or can afford to spend each month on your membership? Do you want to be able to buy a trial membership for 1 week or are you happy to commit to 1 month or longer? 3. Features. Which features are important to you? Do you want a profile matching system or would you prefer to make up your own mind about who is right for you? Do you want to be able to use chat rooms and Instant Messaging or would you be perfectly happy with just email? 4. Some sites offer local private events such as speed dating or even singles traveling adventures. Would you be interested in that? 5. Privacy. Some websites allow you to limit who can view your picture or your profile. Does this matter to you or do you want as much exposure as possible? 6. Safety. Some dating sites do background checks of all subscribers to certify a variety of things such as age, marital status, criminal background, career or income. Would you feel safer and happier having this feature? These are just some, but not all, of the things you should consider when choosing a dating website or websites. If you do your homework, you can make online dating the pleasurable experience it should be. Effects of Sleep on Fat Loss

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Max Powers If you are like most people you could stand to lose a few pounds and you dont get nearly enough rest. However, studies show that people who want to lose weight need to get plenty of rest in order to do so. Dont believe it? Consider the following facts and you will change your tune and start getting enough rest, combined with a healthy diet and a little exercise, so you can drop those extra pounds. Gaining Weight? Get Some Rest A large study of many participants found a connection in individuals who get little rest and obesity. In fact, individuals who do not get enough sleep are plagued by an increasing risk factor for obesity. This might seem absurd to you, however there is plenty of medical evidence to back up the fact that a lack of rest results in overweight individuals. The results of this study are staggering. For example, the recommended hours one should sleep each night is 7-8. However, individuals who sleep only half the recommended amount are 73% more likely to be overweight or even obese than those getting enough sleep. The risk factors go down with the more sleep you get, however they still remain high. Individuals sleeping 5 hours a night are at a 50% risk level and those sleeping 6 hours are only at a 23% increased risk. However, you only need 7 or 8 hours each night to really reduce your risk of becoming obese, so find the time in your schedule to sleep the recommended amount and you just might see your pant size shrinking. Why Do You Need Rest To Lose Weight? Most people dont really believe in the get more rest theory to losing weight because it just doesnt make sense, at least on one hand it doesnt. That is because individuals burn fewer calories while they are sleeping than while they are awake, so obviously this is a big hole in the theory. Or, so many people think. However, despite the fact you burn fewer calories when you are asleep than when you are awake you do not eat when you are asleep and this is what makes the biggest difference in this claim. Consider if you only sleep 4 hours a night. That means you have an extra 3-4 hours to consume calories that might be making you overweight rather than if you went to sleep for 7 to 8 hours and ate nothing during this time frame. You will be surprised how many calories you would not consume in a day simply by sleeping the recommended daily amount of 7 hours. Another point is that when you are deprived of sleep, grehlin, a substance in your body, is increased and this makes you want to eat more. Not to mention that sleep deprivation reduces the amount of leptin in the body, a substance that suppresses appetite and lets you know when you are full. So, when you are sleepy your body tells you it is hungrier than it is and cannot let you know when you have filled up as efficiently as it could if you got enough rest. Rest is Not the Only Answer to Losing Weight While getting sleep is important to helping your body function properly and keeping you from eating practically 24 hours a day, it is not the only element one should include in their life to lose weight. If you are interested in losing weight or maintaining weight then you need to eat right, exercise and get plenty of rest. Doing this will keep you slim, healthy, and full of energy so it is a great plan to incorporate into your healthy lifestyle because simply getting more rest each night is not going to melt the pounds away although it will help some. If you dont know how to get started then consider talking to a nutritionist and even a personal trainer to develop a plan for you to get moving and eating healthy. Remember, you must include plenty of sleep in your plan and you will surely lose weight quickly and efficiently. As long as you follow the plan you will also be able to maintain your weight for a lifetime. So, go ahead and get some sleep. It could be what is holding you back from the body you have always dreamed of. This article is byhttp://www.sleepingcommunity.com. Find A Boyfriend

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Ken Marlborough It is a human need and want to love and be loved back. We are imperfect and incomplete beings. We are searching for something that will make ourselves whole, something we may find in the opposite gender. This makes opposites attract. Men need women on their side-a mother and then someone for a girlfriend or a wife. And so do women. They need a masculine figure-a father, and a boyfriend or a husband to be with. For men, finding a girlfriend has never been easy. And for women, especially those who are aesthetically unfortunate, finding a boyfriend is a lot harder. Traditions has always indicated that ladies must wait to be courted, that it is men’s role to hook up, make the first move, and take charge. But what if the guy that you really want is not mutually attracted? You might be thinking of following the steps of aggressive women who have resorted to flirtatious acts and revealing their motives to the objects of their obsession. This may not work. You’ll possibly be left later on doubting that he really loves you and feeling like you’ve made it too easy for him. Some may advise you not to reverse the roles of gender. Men may find that being wooed, though very flattering, deprives them of the role of making their way into their lady’s heart. You may ask if you ever have a chance at finding a boyfriend. Of course you do. Here is some advice. Love yourself first, so you can love others wholeheartedly. In order to be loved back, make yourself loveable. Be the person you want to love. Make it impossible for guys not to love you. Have a cheerful heart and show your confidence. Learn to enhance your personality, and keep yourself abreast of current events and general knowledge so you can speak intelligently and charm guys intellectually. When dating a guy, be a respectable woman. Be yourself, so he’ll know the real you and if ever he gets turned off, then he’s not really the guy for you. Accept it and move on. Don’t give guys the impression that you badly need them. Let them know that you are also selective. Figure out what you want in a boyfriend. Set standards and follow them as you choose your guy. Investigate to test his sincerity. Know him better. Listen to your heart and trust in it. Find a guy who truly loves you, who’s willing to sacrifice and even die for you. You deserve a boyfriend who’s worth you. Guys provides detailed information on Guys, Find A Boyfriend, Gifts For Guys, Boyfriend Problems and more. Guys is affiliated with Find A Girlfriend. By Rebecca Johnson The Golden Nugget Hotel is located in downtown Las Vegas, just blocks away from the Las Vegas Marriage Bureau, making it a convenient place to hold your Las Vegas wedding. The Golden Nugget has been around for over 60 years but it is still the most elegant hotel in the downtown Las Vegas area. A Golden Nugget Las Vegas Wedding can include a ceremony and a reception. The Golden Nuggets wedding and catering department can help you arrange everything you need for your nuptials. They can accommodate small, intimate groups or large weddings with hundreds of guests. The Golden Nugget does not have a wedding chapel so if you choose to have your wedding ceremony there, it will be held in one of their banquet rooms. Chairs are set up facing a wedding arch and pillars decorated with flowers and floral arrangements, which acts as the backdrop for the wedding couple to say their vows. Wedding receptions can also be held in the Golden Nuggets banquet rooms. For a less formal wedding reception, you may also want to consider holding your wedding reception in one of the Golden Nuggets restaurants. Vic and Anthonys Steakhouse offers great dishes such as steak, seafood, and chicken entrees. They also have a selection of wine and hors doeuvres such as caviar and oysters. Finally, the Golden Nugget Hotel also offers a Spa and Salon where you can pamper yourself with a massage or manicure before the wedding and then have your hair and makeup done for the big day. Hotel rooms and suites are also available so if you need accommodations for you or your guests, you can conveniently arrange them at the same site that the wedding is taking place. Are You Overweight, Is It Too Late?

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Rita Tate When is it too late to start exercising and eating healthy. Some people say never, I disagree with that. I think it would be hard to do that when you are 6 feet under because you never started eating healthy and exercising. But as long as you are still breathing, it is not too late. If you are overweight it makes life much harder, getting up and down, walking anywhere, much less trying to exercise. Out of the corner of your eye you see people staring and whispering. They might as well go ahead and point, too. The best time to start an exercise program and eating healthy is when you are young. Unfortunately that is not always the case. As a person gets older, that old saying, “It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks”, is very true, but not impossible. For whatever reason people tend to be less active. At any age a person should and can improve their way of eating and getting some kind of exercise. You don’t have to quit eating, if you do that, you might dry up like a prune. Learning a new way of eating and enjoying new foods, with a friend or group, is a good way to lose the weight. Walk with a friend 2 or 3 times a week. Start off walking short distances and increase it a little at a time. You’ll be surprised at how much better you begin to feel each day. Between the eating healthy and exercising you’ll feel like an new person in no time and life will be better and easier. Soon those same people who were staring and whispering will come up to you and say, “Don’t I know you, you look so familiar, but I just can’t place you?” And you will smile and say, “You must be mistaken, that was another person.” Start today with your new way of life; you’re going to love the way you feel. Sex and Dating Rule #20 - No Saturday Dates after Wednesday

Friday, September 21st, 2007

By Tamika Johnson What? You say. No Saturday dates after Wednesday? What is this 1952? Well no its not, it is 2005 and sometimes old dating rules still apply to later times. Why does it matter you ask? As long as hes asking you out then it shouldnt matter. If hes asking you out that means hes interested, who cares if he calls you Friday afternoon for a Friday night day. Right? Wrong. It does matter when hes asking you out. And this is why: People value their weekends. In a world where people can easily clock sixty hour weeks the time they have off is precious and important to them. People want to enjoy their weekends, so most people tend to plan their weekends in advance. They like to know what they are doing and who they are spending their time with. So if a guy is calling you Friday afternoon for a Friday night date then it probably means whatever other plans he had fell through and youre his plan B. And I dont know about you but I dont want to be anyones plan B. Still dont believe me? Look at it from this point of view: You teach people how to treat you (a theme you will here me repeat time and time again). And by accepting a last minute date from someone, youre sending the message that not only is your time not valuable, because they can call you anytime and youll be free, but that youll drop whatever youre doing to be with them. Even if you didnt have any plans, you dont want to send the message that youre available whenever they feel like calling to ask you out. The bottom line is when a guy is really interested in a woman hes going to make plans with her early in the week because if he doesn’t, hell be afraid she will make plans with someone else. So like I said, if youre getting that weekend phone call for a date, then you werent his first choice. And no one ever wants to be second. The Coming Pandemic Of Identity Theft???

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Robert Hart The mess with the Veterans Administration is scary but there is an even larger problem looming on the horizon. It’s just a matter of time. -FACT There’re 575 mln PCs in use today, 1.3 bln by 2010 By 2010, mature markets in the United States, Europe and Asia-Pacific will have added 150 mln new PCs, while emerging markets will have added 566 mln new computers. Overall, there will be 1.3 billion PCs, up from 575 mln today. The number of PCs in emerging markets will grow at a 31% compounded annual growth rate . Now add to this number that each of these are replaced on an average 3-5 yrs which is where the sleeping giant waits to strike. Now we’re already looking at over 1 billion pc’s waiting to strike back. Now factor in Russia which has long been dubbed a hub of tech fraud, credit-card holders have been justifiably wary about using their plastic there. Travelers have been warned that after charging a dinner to their card in Russia, that number could be copied and used even after the owner left the country. Apart from anecdotal evidence, there are some solid reasons for switching to a paranoid “cash only” existence. Notably, an unknown number of PIN codes giving access to credit- and debit-card accounts were stolen in mid-1999 after a security breach at a Moscow card-processing center. Subsequently, many cardholders had their checking accounts cleaned out, in a rare example of a massive PIN theft. According to the Internet Fraud Complaint Center’s 2001 Internet Fraud Report (PDF), Russia is at the bottom of a list of the top 10 countries for Internet fraud perpetrators, with only 0.2 percent of the identified perpetrators. In the beginning of Id Theft one of the popular ways to get the info needed to create a fraud was dumpster diving. This was accomplished by picking through the trash at a resaruant, mall, bank. There you could obtain ssn, bank and cc acct numbers and so on. The new breed of dumpster diver will go for your hardrive of your old discarded pc. So you’re looking to sell, or recycle your old computer. You’ve cleaned up the keyboard and spray pressurized air all over the box. But have you deleted all your old files? I mean REALLY deleted them? With all the rising threats from identity theft, and Internet mischief, I don’t think it a bad idea to be proactive and clean-up that old hard drive. So find out if important data was really gone after you hit the ‘delete’ key. A few studies have been done where a number of purchased second-hand computers ramdomly selected and taken it to the guys at the Computer Clinic , Anywhere,USA. They put our hard drive to the test. Within an hour, old files were being retrieved all over the place. Financial information, emails, addresses, even digital photos — all of which were deleted by the previous users. The computer techs were able to retrieve all the data by using simple off-the-shelf software. OK, so how do you really get rid of the old files? The trick is to use software that measures up to Department of Defense standards for deleting data. The software basically makes three passes over your hard drive, writing and rewriting the data as it goes. It’s the equivalent of someone scribbling over a sheet of notebook paper, over and over again until it’s nothing more than an unreadable mess. You can buy the software at most software retailers, especially office supply chain stores like Staples and Office Depot. My recommendation is a program called “Drive Washer” — it comes in a bright orange box (you can’t miss it) and meets all the necessary specs. Remember to look for the Department of Defense standards marking on the box before you buy any program. Now, if you’re on a budget there’s an excellent shareware program called “Darik’s Boot and Nuke”. I planned on listing more software here, but this one is really all you need. If you just plan on donating your computer, then you can’t go wrong with Goodwill. Using DoD software, they wipe every hard drive that comes their way, as well as practicing environmentally friendly disposal practices. Student Leadership -Take Your Student Leadership Program to the Next Level

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Michael Grose It is exciting times to be involved in student leadership training! Many schools around the workld are beginning to rethink both the way they train their student leaders and also how they harness the tremendous leadership potential of their students. Recently, I have been involved in two very innovative training programs that are worth noting. First, a secondary school and four of its feeder schools conducted a training program together over two days at the end of 2004 for one hundred of their student leaders. The program focused on developing essential elements such as presentations skills and teamwork skills, as well as helping students clarify their roles. Classroom teachers conducted the sessions and the local secondary school was used as a base. A further training day took place at the start of the year to give the students an opportunity to develop their roles even further. This training model has a number of benefits. Not only does it provide terrific professional development opportunities for teachers, but also it helps ease the transition to secondary school for many students. Another good training program was organised by the Heads of Independent Coeducational Schools in Australia. Over two hundred and twenty elected student leaders gathered for a day of leadership workshops conducted by their teachers. Working in groups the students had the opportunity to expand their horizons when they mixed with leaders from over twenty different schools. As well as honing their skills needed for their particular roles this group began to look at ways to take their leadership to another level by developing self-initiated projects. The use of self-initiated projects is a great way to develop the leadership potential of motivated, community-minded students, which fits the profile of the majority of student leaders. Some examples of self-initiated projects that some primary schools have developed: 1. A student-lead fund-raiser for the Tsunami disaster. 2. An awareness-raising debate about the environmental effects of pine trees following storms that resulted in many houses damaged by falling pine trees. 3. A monthly Tea, Tots n Talk session to enable parents of toddlers to meet and discuss parenting issues. Child minding and refreshments were organised by the leadership team. 4. A High Fly Club established where students organise a range of speakers to visit the school and speak to students during lunchtime. Such projects require supervision and a level of teacher assistance if they are to be conducted well, however the feedback I am getting from schools is that students are proving themselves to be extremely capable project and people managers when given the chance. For schools looking to extend the activities of their student leaders beyond simply fulfilling their roles, by taking on extra projects, the following tips may be useful: 1. Form a leadership team. It is essential for student leaders see themselves as part of a team rather than as just a house captain or SRC representative. 2. Challenge them to devise a project with a set timeframe. The best projects come from the students themselves however they may need some ideas. (For a list of 77 ideas for projects go to downloads on www.youngleadersprogram.com.au) 3. Alternatively, they can conduct a series of smaller projects in small teams. Some schools find breaking the leadership group into smaller teams is far more manageable. 4. Brainstorm activities then make up an action plan for students to follow. A sequenced action plan is essential to help them carry out the activities necessary to get their project happening. 5. Evaluate the effectiveness during the project and at the conclusion. Asking what is working? and what do we need to improve upon? are important questions for any project manager. As schools look for new ways to develop student leadership potential the use of self-initiated projects is one way to make learning come alive for this capable, self-motivated cohort. Herbs Are growing In Popularity

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Paul Ghossain Nowadays people in general are looking for alternative ways to self improvement and well being. The funniest thing however is that one of the most popular alternative methods has been around since the beginning of time. So what we consider an alternative method is quite far from it. Herbs, one of the oldest remedies for curing countless problems that mankind has had is now truly becoming popular once again. Whether we suffer from headaches, bad stomachs or even sexual problems, there always seems to be some type of herbal remedy out there that can solve it. Not everything that herbs can achieve is good however. It is because of this that a good percentage of the human population feel that all herbs are either dangerous or superstitions. Unfortunately things do not get better when opportunists promise you the world with their special remedies. I think in time however, if we all try to educate ourselves a little more on the subject of herbs, more and more people will realise just how wonderful herbs can actually be when used in the correct manner. More education to the general public with a strong growth in popularity will ensure that herbs reclaim their rightful place on this planet once again. Until then, people must be careful of those opportunists out there that aim only to fill their pockets with money and have little regard for what true power actually lies within herbs. If only they knew what they are missing. How My Teenage Child Lost Her Ear - Facts & Tips On Teenage Ear & Body Piercing

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Jake Allen Think this is a bad joke? Think again! In this day in age it’s not uncommon to see teenagers with piercing all over their body. Essentially most parts of the body can be pierced in one form or another and this dramatically increases the chances of hepatitis, HIV, tetanus, auricular hematoma, cauliflower ear, infections, allergic reactions, bleeding, and damage to nerves or teeth. Most parents don’t understand why their teenagers want to get pierced, but for most teens it’s about individuality, fashion and personal freedom. Despite the health warnings, body and ear piercing among teenagers is on the rise! Because of this it’s important to let parents and teens know of the potential dangers of un-safe piercing. For many parents the idea of letting their teenagers get pierced is a scary thing. Parents should consider that piercing is not something that was invented overnight. Many cultures dating back thousands of years have used piercing and tattoos as a symbol of importance, religious beliefs and yes even as decoration. This being said piercing knowledge has come a very long way as well as the proper medical equipment. Parents should do as much research as possible into the available medical equipment before making a decision on teenage piercing. A great way is to do online research or even better yet, talk to other parents who have teenagers with piercing. Chances are they have gone through all the anxiety you may experience and know the answers to many of the questions that are running wild in your mind. Along with the explosion of ear and body piercing has come research into the many new possibilities of damaging ones ears or jeopardizing ones health. Also new medical equipment has been developed to fight those problems. Scientists at the Center for Disease Control are researching a possible link between piercing and the infectious liver disease of viral hepatitis. Parents and teens should keep in mind that getting pierced with non-sterilized medical equipment can dramatically increase your chances of contracting hepatitis which is much more contagious than HIV (the virus that causes AIDS)! This alone should be enough to scare parents and teenagers and motivate them to become more informed on the subject of piercing and more informed about the proper medical equipment. However there are safe ways to get piercing. Many doctors and online resources don’t recommend doing the piercing yourself. Lack of medical sterilization equipment, proper piercing tools and experience typically lead to infections and / or hepatitis. If you’re going to let your teenager get pierced choose wisely. Take them to a reputable piercing shop that uses state-of-the-art medical equipment and do your homework! Most piercing shops will be glad to explain proper sterilization practices with the right medical equipment and ask about the use of medical equipment such sterilizers and autoclaves which are used to effectively sanitize the tools needed for piercing. If you notice that the piercing shop uses a piercing gun to do body piercing go elsewhere. Piercing guns can’t be sterilized and drastically increase the chance of infections. If you want to play it really safe you can purchase a disposable ear piercing kit online. Many online medical equipment stores offer these kits at a very reasonable price. But keep in mind these kits are only for ear piercing, not body piercing. You should also consider letting someone with piercing experience pierce your teenager even with a disposable kit. These kits are very easy to use and are fully disposable thereby drastically reducing the risk of contracting hepatitis and other infections. Keep in mind however, that after your ear piercing is safely done you are not out of danger. Proper maintenance is required after you get your piercing. It’s recommended that you wash the area with soap daily and use isopropyl alcohol on both sides of the ear at least twice a day. Another good idea is to use an antibiotic ointment every night for the first week. A triple antibiotic is preferred, but Bacitracin ointment will also work. Most drug stores or supermarkets will carry brand name and generic versions of these ointments. If you decide to let your teenagers get their ear pierced they should start by wearing only gold earrings first. Some teenagers will find they are allergic to other metals. Once you have your earrings you should rotate them a minimum of twice a day to help prevent scabbing. It’s recommended that you don’t remove your earrings for at least three to four weeks to provide the skin adequate time to heal. Teenagers should wear their earrings a majority of the time during the first year. As far as body piercing goes most piercing shops will provide a list of needed “care and maintenance procedures” to keep your body piercing from becoming infected. Allowing a teenager to receive ear and body piercing can be very scary for parents. With all the potential health risks it’s easy to see why some parents don’t allow their teenagers to get piercing. However it’s good to keep in mind that if done appropriately your teenagers will remain in good health and will be allowed to express themselves in a unique way that they so desire.
