Your Metabolism and Fat Loss

Friday, February 15th, 2008

By Anthony Ellis If you know someone that has been trying to lose weight and get into shape, you have probably heard words such as, “I just eat one meal a day to lose weight” or “I’m afraid if I eat, I’ll gain weight” but sadly, this misnomer is why so many people are in the “battle of the bulge”. People all over the world still believe that eating breakfast, or even three meals a day will cause them to gain weight. In truth, as long as they are eating the right types of foods and exercising, then three normal meals or six small meals a day will actually work better with their metabolism than eating the wrong quantities or not eating often enough. With more than half of Americans over the age of 20 now being considered “overweight”, now more than ever, we need to understand how metabolism works in relation to losing weight. Why risk having a heart attack, a stroke, developing cancer, or diabetes when all you have to do is make a few minor changes and live a healthy life? First, a person’s metabolic rate is determined by the number and size of respiring cells that compromise the body’s tissue, and the intensity of the metabolism in these cells. These two factors combined are what makeup the physiological foundation of the amount of energy (calories) in which a body uses. Keep in mind that energy cannot be created or destroyed, just changed. As we know, potential energy comes from the foods we eat. When talking about weight loss, there are three components of balanced energy, which include calorie intake, calories stored, and calories expended. The way it works is that if the amount of calories taken in equals the amount of calories being expended (burned), then there is balance and the body’s weight is stable. On the other hand, if the balance becomes positive, caused by more food being eaten than is burned, energy is destroyed or in better terms, stored as body fat. It is important to remember that you can be eating a diet considered low-fat and still gain weight. The reason is that most dietary fat is stored while the body is burning carbohydrates and proteins for energy. The problem is the when a person gains weight, the increased level of fat becomes stored energy until the calorie balance is negative. For that to happen, the amount of calories burned needs to exceed the number of calories being consumed, no matter what the macronutrient content. Metabolism is the rate at which the body uses energy to support the basic functions essential to sustain life. This metabolism is comprised of three parts, which include physical activity (20%), Thermic Effect of Food, also called TEF (10%), and Resting Metabolism Rate or REM (70%). Physical activity is the amount of energy your body burns up during normal, daily activities to include housework, recreation, work, exercise, and so on. Obviously, someone that is physically active will burn more energy than a sedentary person will. TEF accounts for the energy used in digesting and absorbing nutrients, which would vary depending on the meal’s composition. When a person overeats, TEF is increased because more food must be digested. Here is where metabolism becomes very interesting and what causes so much confusion. One pound is equal to 3,500 calories, so let us say a person consumes 3,500 more calories than normal. That individual would not gain one pound because the TED is accounted for but if 3,500 calories were cut trying to lose weight, then TEF decreases since there would be fewer nutrients to process. The result is that with energy expenditure would decrease, meaning that the individual would lose less than one pound in weight. In other words, by cutting out too much food, TEF cannot work as it was designed to do. Now keep in mind that you cannot go around eating a bunch of junk food. After all, the calories you do consume need to be healthy foods but what this does mean is that when you do not eat, you are actually working against your body in fighting weight gain, not the other way around. Finally, the RMR refers to the number of calories the body needs to run its essential functions, as well as chemical reactions while in a rested state. This aspect of metabolism accounts for the greatest number of calories burned every day. What happens is that if lean weight should be lost because of increased protein metabolism, then RMR decreases. Typically, you would see this happen when a person goes on a very strict diet. In this situation, the body is forced into a negative nitrogen balance, which means a greater amount of protein is lost than what is replaced because of less protein/energy intake. When this imbalance occurs, there is a gradual loss of lean weight, which then lowers RMR. What happens many times is that dieters will limit the amount of lean weight loss with intense exercise for the muscles to develop a need to maintain more protein. When this happens, the body is forced to use more energy from stored fats. If you want to put your metabolism to work for you, some simple steps can be taken: * By adding a few extra pounds of lean muscle, the metabolic rate can be increased by up to 200% each day* Remember that lean weight can burn as much as 20 times more calories than fat weight* Regular exercise is one of the best ways to boost metabolism* By eating smaller meals and more often, you can boost your metabolism rate While you need to eat healthy foods, studies prove that what matters most is how much of a person’s body weight is attributed to fat. Remember, excess fat is what links to major health problems. Therefore, it is important that you maintain a healthy weight but more crucial that you monitor the fat-to-muscle ratio. For example, a woman standing 5′5″ might weigh only 125 pounds but have a 27% body fat ratio, which is not good. This individual worked hard to diet, while staying involved with aerobics. However, much of what she lost was not fat, but muscle. Even though this weight would be considered ideal for her height, her body fat to muscle ratio is too high. An excellent way to optimize your fat-to-muscle ratio is by getting involved with weight training in addition to the nutrition and cardio. As you will see with the tools provided at www.comptracker.com, you can analyze the thickness of the subcutaneous fat at various areas of the body. The benefit is that you know exactly what your ratios are so you can achieve a healthy fat-to-muscle ratio as well as body weight. Remember, you are in control and need to make the decision to do something good for yourself. Therefore, now is the time to take that control and fight to live a lean and healthy lifestyle. Student Life in Nottingham

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

By Susan Ashby The city of Nottingham, with two universities and several smaller colleges, has a large and varied student population, which has contributed its own creative and edgy flavour to the citys younger neighbourhoods. Some 40,000 full-time students make Nottingham their place of education, life, work and entertainment. The University of Nottingham is the largest educational institution in the city, with about 32,000 registered students in 2005. It features one of Britains largest medical schools, and staffs the Queens Medical Centre teaching hospital. The principal University Park Campus lies just to the west of the Nottingham city centre, filled with award-winning buildings and green space. University Park has a dozen halls of residence for first year students (and others who wish to stay on campus), each holding 200-300 students: Ancaster Hall, Cavendish Hall, cripps Hall, Derby Hall, Florence Boot Hall, Hugh Stewart Hall, Lenton and Wortley Hall, Lincoln hall, Nightingale Hall, Rutland Hall, Sherwood Hall, and Willoughby Hall. Smaller nearby satellite campuses are the Jubilee Campus, with its three residence halls (Melton Hall, Newark Hall, and Southwell Hall), the Sutton Bonington Campus (with Bonington Hall made up of a conglomeration of smaller residences), and the Kings Meadow Campus. The university also maintains two international campuses in Malaysia and China. The University of Nottingham Students Union is made up of one hundred and fifty student societies and seventy two special interest clubs, and the universitys sport teams participate in the British Universities Sports Association. The undergraduates at the university produce a student magazine called Impact, run the University Radio Nottingham, and stage shows and special events at the New Theatre. The Campus 14 is a series of bars on the University Park campus; new students are often surreptitiously challenged to complete the bar crawl of consuming at least one drink at each location. The University of Nottinghams main rival in the city is the Nottingham Trent University (named for the Trent River which flows through the centre of town). It began as Trent Polytechnic, and later Nottingham Polytechnic, but became a full-fledged university in 1992, and now teaches over 25,000 students every year, focusing on a variety of useful and high end trades. Like its rival institution, Nottingham Trent has multiple campuses. The central campus, located near Shakespeare Street downtown, is known as the City Campus. Clifton Campus, home to humanities and science departments, and Brackenhurst Campus which focuses on rural and animal sciences, are located on the fringes of the city. The Nottingham Trent Students Union coordinates the activities of some three dozen student organizations, and maintains several student shops, bars, gyms, and other amenities. They also organize weekly music nights, publish the Platform student newspaper, and produce the Fly FM and Kick FM radio programmes. Other schools in the area which contribute to the lively student culture include New College Nottingham, the Nottingham School of Fashion, Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies, Nottingham High School, Bilborough College, Chilwell School, Nottingham High School for Girls, South Nottingham College, the Greenwood Dale Technology College, and The Nottingham Bluecoat School and Technology College. The Old Market Square, Canalside, the Lace Market, and Hockley Village are popular areas for off-campus student entertainment. The Waterfront and The Corner House are popular gathering places, as are The Palais, Ohm, Bar None, Cucamara, Lizard Lounge, The Cookie Club, Jongleurs, Bell Inn, Daniels Hall, The Square, Muse, and the other three hundred and fifty pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants. One shouldnt miss a visit to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, either — the oldest pub in England, built half in a cave in the side of a sandstone bluff. The city boasts numerous music venues, especially Rock City, The Rescue Rooms, Stealth, The Social, Junktion 7, The Old Angel, The Edge, Media, Ocean, The Bomb, Blueprint, The Works and the Boat Club, in addition to the Royal Concert Hall and the Nottingham Arena. There are also numerous cinemas, live theatres, and interactive art galleries to suit the visually inclined. The Arboretum Park, Abbey Court, The LeftLion underground magazine and website provide a valuable guide to music and social events for students and young people. The organization is named after the leftmost of the pair of large stone lions which decorate the steps of the Council House in Old Market Square — rumour has it the left-hand lion is named Brian, while the other is Ryan. The square has also been a gathering place for student events and celebrations, such as the winning of the European Cup and the F.A. Cup by local football team Nottingham Forest. The universities and other local sites are connected by the Nottingham Express Transit, or NET trams. Shopping areas like Broadmarsh Shopping Centre, Victoria Centre, and Flying Horse Walk are easily accessible to students, as are the high-fashion neighbourhoods of Hockley Village and Bridlesmith Gate. Free Gasoline And How To Get It

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

By Matthew Keegan Paying $3 for a gallon of gasoline is proving to be too much for some people. Taking mass transportation, riding a bike, and walking are some of the things people are doing to help them cope. Several promotions that actually give away free gasoline are being touted by a few companies. Lets take a look at some of the more popular ones and see if one can possibly work for you. Buy a Mitsubishi, get free gasoline for one year. Go to Mitsubishis web site and the following information about their offer is posted: There’s only one way to beat the high cost of gas. That’s in the driver’s seat of a new Mitsubishi. Buy or lease any new 2005 Mitsubishi and receive a year’s worth of gas from Mitsubishi Motors. You get to choose any one of Mitsubishi’s 2005 vehicles or the hot new 2006 Galant or Endeavor, and we’ll pick up the cost of your gas for a whole year. Visit www.mitsubishi-motors.com for details. Free gasoline for one year. Shasta County, California residents have the opportunity to win free gasoline for one year by entering radio station Q97s Song of the Day contest. Restrictions apply; visit http://q97country.com/gasrules.shtml for a list of all the rules. Win 1500 gallons of gasoline or $3500. Survey Networks will be giving away free gasoline or cash to a lucky winner who will be chosen via random drawing: http://www.surveynetworks.com/survey.cfm?ref=15618 Win Free Gas For Two Years. Publishers Clearinghouse is giving away up free gas for some lucky winner in a drawing to be held this December. Visit www.pch.com for more information. There are other contests and promotions being held right now, but some require that you sign a contract and/or agree to purchase other products for the chance to get free gas. Of course, any contest or promotion that requires a separate purchase is not truly free. Read the fine print and think wisely before taking any action. Have fun! Writing a Life Bio for Your Graduating Class After 40 Years of Healing-Part Two

Monday, February 11th, 2008

By Russ Miles In “Writing a Life Bio for Your Graduating Class After 40 Years of Healing ~ Part One” I said, When my only real high school buddy, Bob Cisco, threatened to kill himself, I didn’t believe that he would do it. I was right. He didn’t end his life by his own hand that time. I’m sure that you remember Bob. He strutted his white four-year lettermans sweater which he had to earn by managing the football teams locker room. He was the skinny, non-athletic, blond-haired, blue-eyed kid, with the big head, and the funny name. And Bob was the genius kid who didn’t graduate with our class because his attitude and bruised ego prevented him from making up one sophomore English credit. I guess I’m including Bob in my bio because he will never have a chance to write his own. He wasn’t very popular, either. I remember seeing him “Taken down” in the hall, having his tennis shoe removed, and the laughter when it wasn’t a “Converse.” I was proud of my friend and 3-man debate team partner when (the year after Dave Watts and I were kicked off the forensics squad for a curfew violation at the State Championships) Bob won all of the speech trophies, himself. I didn’t doubt that he had earned a scholarship. Yet, Bob never admitted to anyone that he was lacking a necessary credit, nor advised by someone in authority strongly enough to take a summer school class. I worked by his side when we sold women’s shoes. When I went on to college, I respected the fact that Bob became a journeyman carpenter. I stood as his best man when he was married, as he had by me the first time I wed. I cried with Bob when he did something stupid, lost his restaurant on 82nd and Foster, and got a divorce. He catered my oldest daughter’s large wedding at “Welshes,” Mt. Hood resort, as his gift. I saw him cut his middle finger off on his band saw making a toolbox for me. We were friends a long time. I was there to see his weeping sister, Kaye, carry away his ashes in Arizona, last year too. Perhaps, I’ll write more in my bio later? I’ve been up all night reflecting. I don’t really feel to well at this moment. It’s probably the MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Funny, I don’t remember learning about its warning signs in health class, or maybe Bob and I skipped school that day? Obtaining Semi Truck and Trailer Financing

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jim_McCormack]Jim McCormack When youre in the market for a new or used semi truck and trailer, you generally have the option of buying it right on the spot with a one-time cash payment, leasing it or financing it. Very few people have enough money available for an outright cash purchase, so most will either enter into a leasing or a financing arrangement. Leasing has its benefits, but if you want to one day take ownership of your semi truck and trailer, financing is probably going to be your best option. Remember, financing a semi truck and trailer is very similar to financing an automobile. Keep the following in mind during your efforts at obtaining semi truck and trailer financing: Contact your bank first Youll usually have the option to finance your semi truck and trailer right at the place of purchase. In doing so, youre able to pick out your truck and drive it home the same day. However, youre not obligated to get financing on-site. And you may end up paying for this convenience because on-site financing companies wont always offer you the best financing arrangement. Even if it is the best the company can offer, it may not be the best youre able to get. If youve got an established banking relationship, discuss your plans beforehand and see what type of financing deal you can get right from your bank. That relationship might get you a lower interest rate and an easier approval process. Know your creditworthiness The financing youre able to obtain for your semi truck and trailer is going to depend a great deal on your creditworthiness. If youre considered a high credit risk, your terms will usually be less favorable than if you are considered a safe credit risk. Get a copy of your credit report from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus. Theyre free! Review each credit report carefully and should you notice any discrepancies, find out how to remedy them immediately. Then spend a few dollars to find out your credit score. The higher the score (over 720 is the best), the less credit risk you are which means you should be getting the most favorable rates of interest. Be ready with proof of insurance Regardless of where you obtain financing for your semi truck and trailer, you will likely have to provide proof of insurance. If you dont already have insurance on your truck, make sure you plan for this in your budget. If you do, it should be easy to transfer and update your coverage. Understand the terms of your financing Delayed payment plans, plans that allow you to vary your payments according to your slow seasons and busy seasons, rent-to-own options and other payment plans all sound good, but they may not be if they end up costing you more in the long run. Take time to read all the fine print so you know exactly what youre getting into. If you dont understand something, ask for clarification before you sign on the dotted line! Do You Want To Earn From Home - Find Out How

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

By Pete M. Futano For many moms, writers, and artists, to earn from home is the only option. We have children who are not yet of school age whom we do not want to put at a day care. We have art that requires more hours than there are in a day, preventing our leaving the house for a strong 9 to 5 show. Or we are writers who prefer to and need to cut off, to work an continuous process. But as those who come before us in the work from home category will advise, there are some requirements, some must dos. Here are a few of them, as defined and discussed by the work from home veterans. Keep a professional schedule. Just because you are at home, it is raining, the bed is comfortable, doesnt suggest you can take the day off. Set up a reasonable working schedule and keep it. Otherwise, you will lose force. As one wise person once said, it is easier to stay going than to get going (ala Albert Einstein or was it Isaac Newton and the theory that holds that a body in motion stays in motion a body at rest stays at rest). Get dressed. Remember the movie, Oh, God George Burns, playing God, suggests to John Denver, who has just been shocked and wants to do nothing but mope, that he shave, shower, and brush his teeth to normalize, to stay feeling someone normal by doing the normal, everyday things he usually does. This, and that working in night clothes just feels so wrong, feels so antithetical to the goal. You want to be productive but you are in sleep clothes that foster a sleep mode outlook. Discourage interruptions. This is the absolute toughest for any earn from home worker. The kids need something, spilled something, and are fighting over something. The dog barks to be let out then barks to be let in. The spouse, roommate, or other drops in to remind you of something, ask you something, and visit. Make it clear that you are at work an hours drive away and do not exist in the building, the same way you would not be present if you were at a job you had to drive to. They would not stop in at your job to visit. And, hopefully, they would not call every time the channel got changed while they were hey watching that or every time they couldnt find that pink shirt with the green line. If explaining doesnt work, come up with a signal system. I use a Do Not Disturb hanging sign that I got from a hotel. And I do NOT acknowledge knocks, throat clearing, or crocodile tears. Finally, I would be remiss in advising those new to earn from home if I left out a warning if it says earn from home or work at home or any variation of majority such as these, watch that it is not a cheat. As one smart person on a homeworking.com forum board says, employers are not ask for for people who work at home in general. They have a specific job they need done and are seeking a specific person with friendly skillsets. If an ad is too general, it may be one which will lead you to a job that never appear but instead requires you send money, invest money, or share. No job sould require money up front. You are looking to earn it from them not spend it on them. Get the latest articles and resources on how to earn extra money as well as home business online. Wedding Invitations Primer - Wording Samples, Etiquette, Trends and Costs

Friday, February 8th, 2008

By Cori Locklin Wedding invitations are the focal point of your wedding stationery, providing the first glimpse into the style and formality of the wedding. While save-the-dates can be flirty and fun, your invitations will be a true reflection of your event. Plan your wedding invitations with care with my complete wedding invitation planning guide. The Anatomy of a Wedding Invitation Wedding Invitations can include a number of enclosures, depending on the nature of your wedding and your stationery budget. (obviously more enclosures means higher costs) Outer envelope: Holds all enclosures, formally addressed to the recipient. Inner envelope: Holds all contents of the formal, third-person invitation for protection during shipping. Reception card: Specifies where and when the reception will be held - usually included only if the ceremony and reception take place at different locations. Response card: On which your guests indicate acceptance or regrets. In self-addressed stamped envelope. Make sure to include an RSVP deadline. Map/Directional: Optional insertion to help guests navigate and arrange for accommodations Cost & Budget Considerations Before you go shopping, become familiar with the invitation printing process and lingo; this will help you determine your needs in advance and avoid unnecessary costs. Price is determined per invitation, so if your guest list is huge - be prepared to designate a significant portion of your budget to wedding invitations. Costs can range anywhere from $1-$50 each. Bulky papers, colored inks and unique graphics all increase the cost. Custom designs can also be pricey. Printing options also affect the cost. Invitation Printing Options: Engraving - most formal and most expensive - results in raised print that is pressed through the back Thermography - less expensive than engraving - results in raised print that does not press through the back Lithography - less expensive than either engraving or theromography - results in print that is neither raised nor pressed through Laser printing - the least expensive option. - produced on a laser printer and results in print similar to that of lithography. When factoring total costs, don’t forget to consider postage as part of your budget, including stamps for the response card envelopes. Looking for ways to save? Keep your design simple, sticking to one color. Use lighter weight papers and include less inserts. Use response postcards instead of cards with envelopes. Trends As with all other aspects of your wedding, your invitations give you an opportunity to reflect a particular color, theme, and/or season of your wedding. During the spring, include pressed flowers or a flower blossom motif featuring the colors of your wedding. Hot right now is Asian-inspired floral motifs or anything 3D that adds texture. For the fall, incorporate warm, colorful leaves. For a summer wedding, feature seashells and starfish with brilliant ocean-blues or sunset-orange/reds. And for the winter, incorporate snowflakes on a simple white invitation. Other popular suggestions range from unique color combinations and patterns, to ribbons or other clever themed items such as bindings. Many couples are going back to the traditional, formal look and featuring both sets of initials as monograms on the cover, but what’s even hotter is a creative logo or historic family seal. Whatever you decide, make your invitations innovative and unique to your personal style and wedding! Tips, Rules & Etiquette When to send them - send wedding invitations 6-8 weeks before the big day. (if you think your guests will need more advanced notice, send save-the-date cards as well) Try to order invitations 3-4 months in advance to ensure they go out on time. How many to order - Order about 25% more than the number of guests you’re inviting - you’re bound to make mistakes or make last minute additions. Consider hiring a calligrapher for an added touch of elegance. (this is the first impression of your wedding!) Make sure to factor in the additional timing to ensure your invitations go out on time. Many rules apply to wording and addressing invitations. Here are some of the basics to ensure yours are “faux pas-free”: Invitation Wording Etiquette Dates and times should be spelled out (half after four o’clock in the evening, not 4:30pm, and the twenty-second of April, not April 22) Mr. and Mrs. are abbreviated and Jr. may be, but the title Doctor should be spelled out No punctuation is used, except after abbreviations and between the city and state. An invitation to just the wedding ceremony does not include an R.S.V.P “Hosting” the wedding can mean anything from a set of parents helping to plan the event, inviting the guests, or covering the costs: If there is one set of hosts, list their names at the beginning. If both sets are hosting, list on separate lines with bride’s parents first. If one set is hosting but you want to include the other set as well, note their names under their son/daughter’s name. If you are hosting your own wedding, begin with the request line and state parent’s relationship under your name. If you and both sets of parents are hosting, list your names first followed by “together with their parents” before therequest line. Addressing Etiquette No abbreviations, except for Mr., Mrs., Ms., and Jr. States must also be spelled out. If one of your single guests is bringing a date that you know personally, send that person a separate invitation instead of including “& Guest” on the inner envelope. If you are unable to obtain the name of a single friend’s guest - indicate on the inner envelope that they may bring a guest - NOT on the outer envelope. (this looks awkward) Unmarried couples who live together should receive one invitation, where their names are listed in alphabetical order and on their own lines. Invited guests who are living together as roommates, not couples, should each receive their own invitation. List the names of children under the age of 18 who still live at home on the inner envelope instead of “& Family” which can be very ambiguous and easily misinterpreted. Children over the age of 18 should receive their own invitation, regardless of their living situation. The traditional, married couple recipient should follow this format: Mr. & Mrs. Ryan Parker 2211 First Street, Apartment 3 San Diego, California 92109 Wedding Invitation Wording Samples Gone are the days when wedding etiquette mandated that the bride’s parents, and the bride’s parent’s only, hosted the wedding. Today anyone can foot the bill, and with modern familial arrangements often anything but nuclear, there is no straightforward rule for wording invitations. We’ve sorted through the confusion to bring you wording samples for the most common arrangements: Simple, Traditional Format [proper names of those hosting] (official hosts line)request the honour of your presence (request line)at the marriage of their [relationship of the bride to the host][bride's first and middle names]to[groom's full name],the [day of the week] of [day and month of wedding]at [hour] o’clock in the [time of day] at[name of wedding venue] in[city, state]Reception to follow Divorced Parents [proper name of host]requests the honour of your presenceat the marriage of [his/her] [relationship of the bride to the host] Or, if parent is remarried and hosting with new spouse: [proper names of those hosting]request the honour of your presenceat the marriage of [his/her] [relationship of the bride to the host] Or, if divorced parents are mutually hosting: [proper name of mother]and[proper name of father]request the honour of your presenceat the marriage of their [relationship of the bride to the host] When the bride’s one living parent is hostingThe invitation is issued only in the name of the living parent: Mr. [Mrs.] Jonathan Stephen Smith and Timothy Wrightrequests the honour of your presenceat the marriage of his [her] daughterElizabeth Ann When the Bride and Groom host The honour of your presenceis requestedit the marriage ofMiss Ashley JohnsontoMr. Paul Wilkins OR Miss Ashley JohnsonandMr. Paul Wilkinsrequest the honour of your presenceat their marriage Alternative “Request Line” Options “pleasure of your company” “honor of your presence” (used instead of the formal “honour” when ceremony does not take place in a house of worship) “share and celebrate in their joy” another creative idea that reflects the theme and tone of your wedding For a complete guide to creating an elegant and memorable wedding celebration, visit http://www.elegala.com/, your ultimate wedding planning resource. Finding Quality Pictures of Dinosaurs

Friday, February 8th, 2008

By Morgan Hamilton I have two children which even though are similar in age, are completely different when it comes to their areas of interest. My daughter who is in her teens is interested in fashion, guys, and dates. But her primary hobby is talking on the phone; she is doing it all the time. My son is ten years old and all he cares about are toys and things that crawl, smell and make funny noises. Not to mention that his favourite activity is trying to make my daughter’s life a living hell. This is why I got very surprised when one day both of them said they wanted to make a class project with pictures of dinosaurs. I could have expected such an idea popping up in my son’s head, but I was surprised that my daughter’s art class was concentrating on dinosaurs. My son found the idea of working together with his sister trying to discover pictures of dinosaurs brilliant, but she didn’t even want to hear about it. She highly disliked this project and she had no intention of making things worse by doing research about dinosaurs with her younger brother. I thought it would be funny and easy to help my children with their projects. After all, how hard could it be to find some pictures of dinosaurs? The interest in them has been huge since the motion pictures invaded our lives. Then I began researching and I was faced up to a great difficulty. There were way too many sources to sift through. There are pictures of dinosaurs suitable for classes, others in clip art and there were also such pictures including a multitude of facts - some showing fun facts, others deep analysis of the life and demise of dinosaurs. When I went through the information with my son he was eager to include it all in his project, though the information was far too much. However, on the contrary, my daughter disliked all the pictures and wanted to use the first one she saw, even though she thought it was stupid, because she just wanted to have her project done. Then we tried searching for pictures in the arts area and we found some which were breathtaking. Many artists have managed to capture the beauty of the dinosaurs, as well as the magic of their surroundings. We even came across pictures in water colors and in oils. My daughter especially liked the pictures of life size sculptures of dinosaurs. Working with me, both my children were able to make wonderful school projects. What’s most amazing is how different each project was, though they shared the same topic. Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning kids and teens. Secured Bad Credit Loans are Becoming the Norm

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gordon_Goodfellow]Gordon Goodfellow Secured bad credit loans used to be looked on with some contempt in times gone by. Today they are fast becoming more commonplace, and consumers should be glad. Here are seven good reasons why consumers should all welcome it! 1. There is a lot of money being offered these days and consumers are increasingly discovering that credit references are being recorded as a matter of course. This should be taken as a positive thing as it leads away from conventional lending by the financial institutions and opens up a more diversified lending process for everybody that embraces a wider market. 2. Banks are therefore not the be all and end all. Banks wish to retain as much guarantee of security as they can, so they can afford to pick and choose the customers they lend secured bad credit loans to. But having a ‘one size fits all policy is certainly not good news for the majority of people, because we are all different. Knowing that banks will be this choosy means that we are able to go somewhere else. So in the long run the laws of the marketplace have provided us with a much wider number of lenders when it comes to secured adverse or bad credit loans. 3. Secured loans are usually less expensive - sometimes much cheaper - than unsecured loans. This is due to the risk aspect. If a loan provider knows that the loan is tied into the borrowers property then he knows that the borrower has an extra commitment to keep a roof over his or her head. Therefore the cost of borrowing through a secured loan will tend to be somewhat less for this reason. Simply, the APR figure for secured credit loans will be lower. This may be seen clearly on any loan promotional material. 4. Longer repayment periods. Hand in hand with the fact that the loan amount will be less expensive, the repayment period for secured loans can usually be set longer and thus the monthly payments will be significantly reduced for that reason (although economies of shorter borrowing times should also be taken into account). 5. Personal service. While the secured loan may require more procedures and will generally take longer, you are likely to get a more personal approach than with an unsecured loan, where the application procedure is usually as anodyne and faceless as one simple application form. Most consumers like to be treated like real people rather than just numbers or sales figures. 6. The variety of secured loans available. As well as ordinary secured bad credit loans for any purpose, specific plans for varying types of loan have also grown up. Non-status loans, debt consolidation loans, and both personal and business advances now abound. Special plans can usually also exist if the house your loan is secured on is unusual. For example, brick and tile is the normal form of construction, but if your home is concrete based, or timber framed, or even has a slate roof, specific plans are there if you seek them out. 7. More personal circumstances are considered. Improvements in financial risk management assessment have meant that loans providers are prepared to consider secured bad credit loans where such a thing was not possible in the past. The self-employed, in particular, are not penalised as they used to be, especially with the new approach towards self-certification. Three years of audited accounts are no longer automatically expected from those people who work for themselves. Defaulters, people with CCJs, IVAs and even discharged bankrupts are nowadays regularly considered in todays evolving world of finance. Increasingly, people take bigger financial risks, especially the entrepreneurial minded. The market is evolving to take account of bad credit loans, because it has to.
